Eid is one of the most important festivals for Muslims. They celebrate it twice a year. One is Eid-ul-adha and one is Eid-ul-fitr. People do different activities to enjoy their Eid holidays. In this article we are going to discuss some common things people do on Eid.
1) Eid Prayer
In both these Eids Muslims go for Eid prayer in morning. Before going to prayer they at something sweet. A famous sweet dish is sheer khorma. After that the whole family goes to mosque or an open ground or area to pray.
2) Greetings
Muslims greet their relatives, friends and neighbors with “Eid Mubarak”, which translates to “have a blessed Eid” to mark the occasion.
3) Cleansing and Wearing new clothes
Muslims perform ritual of cleansing their body before going to Eid prayers. Other thing they do is wear new Eid clothes. Men usually wear kurta shalwar while ladies wear kurtis, sarees etc. They decorate their hands with henna and wear jwellery.
4) Meeting with relatives
Muslims go to their relatives house to meet them and spend few time. They have a meal together and forget all their life tensions to enjoy the festival happily.
5) Eidi
One of the things for which children wait for eid is the eidi. It is a concept in which the elders give money to the children.
6) Going out for meals
Muslims go out in restaurants to have dinner or lunch with their families. Eid is one of those holidays in which you will find restaurants busy.
7) Visit Places
Places such as Minar-e-Pakistan, zoo, water parks are places where people like to go to spend their Eid holidays. They go to picnic at beaches and other activities which refreshes their mind and also help them to spend time with their families.
8) Charity
Eid is not only about enjoying yourself but also taking care of the ones in need in your community whether it be your housemaid or someone else. Muslims give charity in large amount in this festival either to the trusts or by themselves.
9) Sacrifice
Sacrifice is only done on Eid-ul-Adha. Muslims sacrifice goats, sheep, cows and camels. After doing the sacrifice they give meat to the ones in need and keep few for themselves too. Children and Men go out to farms to buy their animals.
