Spirit Airlines is one of the most affordable airlines in the country, with prices as low as $9 per flight. However, you’ll need to pay any fees associated with canceling your flight in advance of your departure date. Which can be costly if you don’t plan ahead. This guide to Spirit Airlines’ cancellation policy will walk you through what fees are associate with changing or canceling your tickets. And how to avoid them if possible.
How you can change or cancel your booking
Spirit’s cancellation policy is among its most irksome—which is saying something considering all of its extras. Passengers can change or cancel their Spirit Airlines reservations at no charge as long as they do so 24 hours before departure. Spirit Plane Tickets are nonrefundable, however, if a passenger chooses to cancel within 24 hours of departure, change his or her plans after landing in an alternate city, miss a connecting flight on Spirit Airlines that was not booked with Spirit, or ask for an involuntary refund (i.e., because of illness). In these cases, passengers pay up to $125 per person in fees.
How long before you travel can you change or cancel your Spirit flight booking
With Spirit, you’re eligible to change or cancel your Spirit Airlines reservations up to 10 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Keep in mind that if you decide to change or cancel your Spirit Airline flight booking after that point, there will be a fee apply. After 10 minutes of your scheduled departure time, you can no longer change or cancel your reservation you’ll be on your way! In some cases, when there is limit availability on Spirit Airlines flights and you need to switch or cancel. And we might be able to rebook you on a later flight without any additional fees; however, fees may apply if it is less than two hours before schedule departure time. For more information about rebooking without fees, check out our policy here.
When will your fare be refund if you cancel your booking
If you cancel your booking within 24 hours of booking your flight, you will only receive a credit for future travel. And if you cancel within 24-48 hours of making your booking, there will be no refund. If you cancel within 48-72 hours of booking, there will be a $50 fee to cover our expenses; if you have not flown with us yet, all money paid is forfeited and nonrefundable. Fares include all mandatory taxes and fees at time of purchase. Including September 11th Security Fee up to $5 per ticket. Plus an airport tax recovery fee of up to $9 per ticket depending on itinerary (September 11th Security Fee waived for Spirit Members).
How much are the fees to change or cancel your booking
Spirit says if you book directly on its Spirit Airlines website, it won’t charge a change or cancellation fee. But there’s an easy way to get around that policy. And avoid fees by booking through a third-party travel agent or Official site Spirit Airlines like Flypiritt, Orbitz or Kayak. Once you find your Spirit Airlines Cheap Flights, Spirit’s policy states that any change in flights must be made within one hour of purchase. This means that if you paid online with your credit card, no additional booking confirmation is required. Just head to a kiosk at any airport and make your changes right then and there—no extra cost. If you made your purchase over the phone with a representative, there’s still hope for avoiding fees but it requires more work on your part.
Do they charge different amounts if you’re changing a flight time vs cancelling altogether
Spirit uses a charge multiplier system in which different charges apply depending on whether you’re changing your flight or cancelling entirely. To change your flight time, it will cost you either $35 or $100 per person, depending on where and when you book Spirit Airlines with Spirit Airlines Reservations Phone Number. If Spirit cancels your entire reservation, instead of just a part of it, then you may be charged as much as 100% of your fare (i.e., up to $199 per person). That’s definitely more than most airlines would ever charge for ticket changes! So make sure to read over Spirit’s rules about what constitutes cancellation before Spirit Airlines booking any flights with them.
Are there any exceptions to their policies?
All of Spirit’s policies are subject to change without notice. If you’re flying Spirit Airlines in or out of an airport that is serviced by another airline. You may be required to purchase a full-fare ticket from your original airline to use on Spirit. And if you book with a third-party vendor (like Orbitz), they may have different rules than those listed here. Be sure to check all policies before booking. Keep in mind that Spirit will not rebook your flight for free. If you miss it because of bad weather or traffic delays, so plan accordingly and don’t leave things up to chance.
