If you want to redecorate your bathroom but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars, we suggest installing sliding glass shower doors. Glass sliding shower doors add a modern touch to your bathroom, bring in light, and give the illusion of more space. Moreover, they are ideal for small bathrooms as the door slides instead of opening in and out and bumping into surrounding furniture.
If you have bought a sliding glass shower door but want to install it yourself to save a couple of bucks, we have created a step-by-step installation guide for you. Let’s get started!
Following are the tools you need to install a sliding glass shower door:
● Masking tape
● Silicone caulk
● Metal file
● Bubble level
A sliding glass shower door consists of four major components; a base track, a header, side panels, and the glass panel. Each is installed in a sequence. First, you need to measure the shower space. Using a measuring kit, you can cut the base track with a hacksaw. Remember to file down the blunt edges with a metal file so that the plate fixes perfectly.
Next, you need to install the side panels, also known as wall jambs. Each manufacturer provides two side panels with sliding glass shower doors. Follow the steps below for proper installation:
● Place the first wall jamb against the wall, then place the second one opposite it.
● Then mark the anchors, remove the side panels, and drill half-inch holes.
● After drilling, install the side panels and use a screwdriver to secure them.
The header is the top track of the sliding glass shower doors. The installation is the same as the base plate, but you need to ensure that the base plate is secured and strong enough to handle the whole structure. Apply silicone glue and tape it again to offer extra support.
Then, measure the top shower space, cut the header accordingly, and use a metal file for the sharp edges. Install the header over the wall jambs, with the correct side facing out. Tighten with a screwdriver.
Now, you need to assemble the glass door. This involves installing the door handle and the supplied rollers with screws. After you have attached the hardware, align the glass door with the top plate, a.k.a. header. Make sure you use someone’s assistance here, as the glass panel is heavy and can be damaged. To test, slide the glass back and forth and see if its glides smoothly and you are done!
Sliding glass shower doors are the perfect addition to your bathroom and the upgrade you have been waiting for. A single change can elevate your bathroom and give it a modern look and feel. We hope our sliding glass shower door installation guide was helpful!
