Dr. Murillo-Rohde’s academic achievements continued. In 1971, she made history by becoming the first Hispanic nurse to earn a Ph.D. from New York University (NYU). Her doctoral research focused on nursing students’ attitudes toward mental illness.

Dr. Murillo-Rohde was a dedicated nursing educator and researcher. She held various teaching positions, including Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at NYU, and was a Professor of Nursing at Rutgers University.
