Manchester United are keen on Robert Lewandowski. Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to sign Darwin Nunez. And Real Madrid are keen on Edinson Cavani. But who will be the captain of this team in 2022? Read on to discover the latest in football.
Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Middlesbrough right back Djed Spence
Spurs have been linked with a move for the talented London-born defender and could still make a move this week. The former Middlesbrough right back has expressed an interest in joining the north London club and is keen to play first team football. Tottenham are hoping to lure him away from the Championship and ensure that they remain in the Premier League. Middlesbrough are unlikely to stand in the way of the deal and could move Emerson Royal to make room. The midfielder would compete with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal for a place on the right.
Spurs are aiming to make an offer for Middlesbrough’s right back Djed Spence, who played brilliantly for Nottingham Forest on loan last season and helped them get promoted to the Premier League. Spurs have now intensified their interest in signing the 24-year-old defender and are expected to pay a fee of around PS20 million. Tottenham have already signed a wing-back and a midfielder in the summer, so they are keen to beat other interested parties.
Manchester United are keen on signing Robert Lewandowski
Reports have emerged that Manchester United are keen on signing Robert Lewanderowski for PS18m in 2022. The German midfielder is currently with Bayern Munich and is known as a goalscoring machine. Manchester United have been linked with Lewandowski’s services, particularly as they are currently struggling in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Barcelona have also been linked with Lewandowski, but it is unclear whether they are keen to risk losing him on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old is four years younger than Romelu Lukaku, and he is still at the peak of his goalscoring ability. His representatives have contacted Premier League clubs to gauge their interest. Bayern, of course, have announced that Lewandowski will not be released for free and have made it clear that the striker will not leave for nothing. If Lewandowski is available, Manchester United must fend off interest from Chelsea, who are also interested in signing Lewandowski. With the carrot of Champions League football, Chelsea may be the best option for the player.
Liverpool are set to sign Darwin Nunez
A deal has been struck between Liverpool and Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez. The former Benfica forward is set to sign a five-year deal with the Reds, which could be worth more than EUR100m. Nunez, 26, is set to become Liverpool’s marquee summer signing. His move to Anfield will make him the club’s 13th player to cost more than EUR100m. This could easily top Virgil van Dijk’s current record transfer fee.
The Colombian will cost Liverpool PS5m ($6.1m) a season. This is comparable to the wages of Salah, Firmino, and Mane. He will wear the number 27 and play alongside Roberto Firmino. Nunez came through Uruguayan giants Penarol but has since made a name for himself in Portugal. He has been prolific in both the Portuguese top-flight and the Champions League.
Real Madrid are keen on signing Edinson Cavani
Edinson Cavani has emerged as a potential transfer target for Real Madrid. The Uruguay international has spent the last two seasons with Manchester United. After signing a one-year contract, he failed to make much of an impact for the Red Devils. Real are now weighing up a move for Cavani in January. Another forward in their sights is Erling Haaland. Both Cavani and Haaland are 35 years old and could be a capable back-up to Karim Benzema.
The Argentine winger is in the market for a new contract and is keen to leave Manchester United in the summer. Real have been tracking Cavani for a few years now and could sign him on a free transfer in 2022. Manchester City have been linked with a deal for Haaland, who wants to join the Premier League champions. The winger has just one year left on his current deal with the club, and has scored 12 goals in 42 games.
Manchester City are interested in signing Richarlison
Richarlison is currently under contract with Everton until 2024, which makes it difficult for him to join a top club in the coming season. However, he has impressed manager Tite and has played regularly for the national team, scoring 14 goals in 36 appearances. However, he will have competition from a number of players for a place in the team this summer, with Manchester City and Real Madrid both showing interest.
Everton have been linked with a move for Richarlison in the summer, with the Brazilian set to complete a six-year deal. However, Arsenal are also interested, with the latter rumoured to be in talks with Richarlison. As a result, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Richarlison. The former Everton striker has made it clear that he wishes to leave the club, with Chelsea his preferred destination.
Barcelona are interested in signing Gabriel Jesus
Manchester City’s striker Gabriel Jesus has been linked with a summer move away from the Etihad Stadium, but is a target for Barcelona. The Catalan club have already signed Ferran Torres, Luuk de Jong, and Adama Traore. However, Barca have cast a wider net to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window. This will leave City without a natural striker in Xavi Hernandez.
While a deal between City and Barcelona is unlikely to happen this summer, the Spaniard is a prime target for other clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal. It is not clear whether Barcelona can afford to sign Gabriel Jesus, however, as they are already chasing Romelu Lukaku. If Lukaku returns to Inter, the deal is likely to fall through. If Lukaku doesn’t, Barcelona’s next option is Gabriel Jesus.
