Allegiant Airlines are known for their cheap prices and additional fees, but there is another fee you might not be aware of: the pet fee. If you want to take your pet on board an allegiant flights, check out these rules and regulations to see if your pet is allowed in the cabin or if they have to travel in the cargo hold.
In brief
Per its website, pet carriers for small pets must be no larger than 17x12x8 inches. For in-cabin travel, carriers must fit completely under your seat and you will need enough space to sit next to it. Pets that exceed these dimensions may travel with you in cargo; if you are traveling alone, your pet will have an opportunity to stretch its legs during layovers at a cargo facility with climate control. For more information about traveling with a pet on Allegiant Air, see allegiant airline website.
What does in the cabin mean?
When booking allegiant airlines flights, you will notice three options when selecting your seat: Standard Seat, Comfort+ Seat and Premium Seat. If you plan to travel with a pet in cabin, you will need to select a seat in a Premium cabin. A valid identification card is required to travel with your pet, and there is an additional fee for traveling with a service or emotional support animal. The following animals are considered pets and are allowed in cabin: cats (in carriers), dogs (in crates no larger than 16 x 20 x 26), hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs (no more than 2 per passenger). To accommodate allergies, please choose from our variety of pet-free flights.
Special notes for pets in the cabin
There is a fee of $95 each way per pet if you are bringing your furry friend with you into an aircraft cabin. Before booking allegiant air, it is wise to confirm if your pet can fly safely in a plane. As part of that, you will be required to sign an agreement saying your pet is healthy and well behaved. Also, note that only one pet per customer is allowed in cabins, and no pets will be accepted if they are sick or aggressive animals. For example, American bulldogs are banned from flying with Allegiant Air.
Can I bring my pet in cargo on Allegiant Air?
Many people have asked us if they can bring their pets in cargo on an Allegiant Air flight. Currently, we do not allow pets to travel in cargo due to Federal Aviation Administration regulations. For pets traveling in the cabin of your aircraft, you should contact allegiant airlines reservations phone number at 702-505-8888. There is a $100 charge per animal for any pet that is carried into or out of an airport facility.
How are animals transported in cargo?
For some people, flying with their pet is necessary. Some are required to fly cargo because they are a service animal, while others prefer their pet be with them while they travel. Each airline has its own set of rules and regulations for bringing animals onto its flights, so it is important to check in advance. For example, Allegiant Air requires pets that are traveling in cargo to be at least 8 weeks old and have proof of age; JetBlue only allows pets weighing under 20 pounds onboard as checked baggage.
How much does it cost to transport a pet by air cargo with you?
While it is possible to fly with your pet in-cabin, many airlines will not allow dogs that are over a certain size. For example, Hawaiian Airlines and allegiant pet policy only allow pets up to 20 pounds; Southwest allows them up to 50 pounds. Therefore, many people looking for a safe way to transport their pets by air will have no choice but to fly them as cargo. A one-way flight as air cargo can cost between $500 and $1,500 depending on your travel route and carrier. Although it may seem expensive, these services provide peace of mind knowing that your pet will be treated like an individual customer while they are in transit with one of the safest methods of travel today: cargo planes.
Bringing your pet as checked baggage
Pets are always welcome aboard Allegiant Air, but there are restrictions and policies to be aware of before booking allegiant flight. Pets can fly with you in-cabin or as checked baggage. If they are traveling as baggage, pets will travel in an approved kennel (provided by you) that will fit under your seat. They will still need a health certificate and proof of vaccinations within 10 days of departure date; if traveling from an area where there is risk of exposure to rabies, your pet will need a second rabies vaccination within 30 days of departure. Check out allegiant airline official website for more details about bringing your pet along for their next vacation!
